As the entire world feels the impact of the corona virus, so have our residents. We are very fortunate that Olympic Neighbors’ Hamilton House is able to remain open and continue providing services to our residents during this time. We have had to enforce strict mandates that have stopped all “nonessential” activities for residents including going to work. The house is not allowed to accept any visitors at this time –including family members. All staff must be screened for symptoms before working their scheduled shifts.
These mandated restrictions are necessary to keep everyone safe and healthy. We are doing our best to keep our residents as calm and engaged as possible. Extreme changes in routine are especially hard for people with developmental disabilities. We are doing our best to explain what is happening without scaring or overwhelming our clients.
We are trying to keep things as normal as possible in this very unusual situation. We are grateful for the nice weather and our ability to get outdoors. We are staying as active and positive as possible.
Olympic Neighbors has to provide additional staff coverage to meet the current needs of our residents. We also had to cancel several fundraising events. We have no idea what the impact of this will have on our ability to raise the money necessary to operate our programs this year. We encourage those that have the means to donate at this time to do so whether it is to Olympic Neighbors or another good cause that moves you. We need each other more than ever now.
